4日目はヨセミテを出てサンフランシスコへ戻ります。
公園外の可愛い街並みを抜けフリーウェイを走ります。
Day 4, move to San Fransisco.
The car went through the small town and entered the freeway.
I-580 に入ってダブリンのあたりで道が渋滞し始め、のろのろ運転に
やな感じの走り方になったなあ～と思った時、ドン!
後ろの車がぶつかってきました。。。。。やられたー！
ポリスマンが30分ほどで到着し、処理はすぐに終わったし
怪我もなく、車の大きなダメージも無かったのでよかったです。ほっ
On I-580, in Dublin, traffic moved slow.

The police arrived at the accident site after 30 minutes,

ベイブリッジを渡ってサンフランシスコ市街に入ります。
いったんホテルにチェックイン
ピアの近くなので歩いて出かけます。

After checking in at a hotel. they went out to Pier by foot.
街中は8月の日中にも関わらず、肌寒いのでジャケットを着て、
ボーイズが楽しみにしていたバーガーショップ
IN-N-OUTへ向かいました。
In San Fransisco, even though the day time in summer,
Jacket is necessary because the air is chilly.
Boys were looking forward to eating hamburger of In-N-Out.
店内は大混雑、オーダー待ちの列が長い！
作りたてを売りにしているので、もちろんバーガーも待たされます。
アルカトラズツアーに間に合わなくなるので
商品を受け取り、歩きながらバーガーを食べるはめになりました。
しかもこの人込みの中、家族4人早足で・・・
A lot of people were waiting to order.
This shop sell fresh made hamburger......so need patience!
They didn't have enough time to eat burger at the shop,
because they were planning to visit Alcatraz Island.
They grabbed it and ate while walking down the street.
アルカトラズツアーはピア33から出発。
乗船には間に合いました！
バーガーはゆっくり味わえなかったけどおいしかったです。はい。
They arrived at Pier 33 on time.
The burger was delicious, though they were not able to enjoy it.
街から島までの距離はわずか2マイル(3.2 km)
映画「シャッターアイランド」を思わす景色です。
ちなみに１階の船首から島の写真を撮るときは
思いがけない水しぶきを浴びる可能性があるので気をつけた方がいいです。
実際マミィがこの写真を撮った時は大丈夫だったのですが
ダディはしっかり水をかぶっていました。。。。

島に上陸したら坂を上がってセルハウスへ
オーディオツアーを受け取ります。
Only 2 miles to the Island, the ferry arrived soon.

映画のように独房が並んでいました。
でもこれはセットではなく、実際１９６３年まで使われていた刑務所です。

監房は外壁とは接しないように作られています。
懲罰房の電気はつけられることはなく、中は真っ暗です。
向かいの窓からは２マイル先のサンフランシスコの人々の声が
風に乗って聞こえてくる事もあったのだとか。

The Rock と呼ばれ、脱獄は不可能と言われたアルカトラズでも
14回も脱獄事件があったそうです。
1964年に起こった Battle of Alcatraz では
看守が人質にされ、看守2人、囚人3人死亡, 多数の犠牲者が出たそうです。
最終的に軍が鎮圧したときに使った爆弾の後などもありました。

In response, Marines dropped grenades through the roof.
In the wake of the conflict, two correctional officers and three inmates lay dead.

夜の見回りに気付かれないようダミーの頭を作りベッドに置いていたそうです。
この３人の行くへは不明のままだそうですが。。。

オーディオツアーでは連邦刑務所時代の説明だけとなっていますが
建物の外には、アメリカンインディアンに占拠された時の文字もあり、
占拠中の火災で燃えてしまった建物もそのままでした。
