夏の始まり Memorial Day

5月の最終月曜日はメモリアルデー（戦没者追悼記念日）の祝日です。

もとはデコレーションデーと呼ばれ、

アメリカのために命を落とした軍人を追悼する日です。

南北戦争の戦死者のために御墓を花で飾ったのが由来だそうです。

Celebrated in most states on the last Monday in May,

Memorial Day is a time to remember the U.S. men and women

who lost their lives serving their nation.

Originally know as Decoration Day,

it was established in 1868 to commemorate the death from the Civil War.

南東部の諸州では、軍人のためだけではなく、

家族のお墓を飾る日としているところもあるそうです。

メモリアルデーと聞くと、夏の始まりというイメージも強く

メモリアルデーピクニックというのも良く耳にします。

お墓参り、季節の変わり目と言えば

日本のお彼岸の様な感覚でしょうか？？

In some states, Decoration Day is not only for service members

but the day to decorate family graves.

Memorial Day is the day of the summer opening,

The event such as picnics are held in many places.

Visiting to graves and turning point of season,
 it may be the thing like the equinoctial week in Japan??

レアはお散歩のとき

星条旗を掲げている家を何軒も見つけました。

When Lea went for a walk, she found the National flags.
