春の訪れ Japanese tradition

今日は節分です。

節分とは季節を分けるという意味。

立春の前日 が節分、つまり冬の終わりです。

Today is Japanese traditional event "Setsubun"

"Setsubun" literally means "the day between two season "and this day is the end of winter.

People celebrate the day before the first spring day on the present calender.

昨日のGroundhog Day 同様、

サウスフロリダでは「冬の終わり春の訪れ」というのはあまりピンときませんが

ボーイズに少しでも日本の伝統行事を知ってもらいたいので

今朝は恵方巻きにちなんで海苔巻きを作りました。

本当は恵方（今年は北北西）を向いて丸かじりするのでしょうけれど・・・

Mommy want boys to know Japanese traditional, 

and she prepared thick sushi roll instead of "Ehou-maki" this morning.

Eating “Ehou-maki” is special traditional event 

which has become popular recently (Kansai region is original)

They eat it for good luck, while facing the year's auspicious direction.

日本人なら誰でも一度は豆まきの経験があると思います。

豆まきはせずともせめて縁起担ぎに年の数だけ豆を食べましょう。

"Mame-maki" is another special traditional event in Japan.

People throw roasted soybeans inside and outside their houses 

with shouting "Devils out! Good luck in!"

Then they eat the same number of beans as their age and wish for good health.

「マミィいっぱい食べてずる～い!!」って顔されても・・・

"Mommy! why do you eat a lot ?  It's not fair !!"
