おまけ日 leap day

今日は2月29日です。

ご存知の通り、太陽暦と地球の自転速度とのずれを修正するために設けられた日です。

Today is a leap day.

As you know,

Earth doesn't rotate around the sun in precisely 365 days. 

It actually takes about 365.25 days. 

We end up with about a quarter-day error every year, 

So we throw in an extra day every four years to make up for that.

修正日である一日 をどのように過ごすか？などと考えたことは

一度もありませんでしたが。。。。

What are you doing with your extra day?

給料は変わらないので、今日はただ働きの日だとか

一日余分に勉強しなきゃいけないとか。。。

そんな風には考えたくないものですね。

If you’re a salaried employee, you may be working for free today.

Because you receive a set salary for a typical year, which is usually 365 days. 

This is the pits!

If you're a student, you have to study more......What a drag!

Stop think like that.

一日多く元気に過ごせるのは

何よりも幸せだとレアは思います。

夜、マミィはフラ仲間にお誕生日のお祝いをしてもらいました。
一緒にフラの練習をして、おいしい ご飯とケーキを食べて
楽しいカードもたくさんもらい、
素敵なエクストラデーになりました。

 Mommy was celebrated her birthday by Hula sisters.
They prepared nice foods and yummy velvet cake,
and a lot of funny cards with Aloha.
Mahalo nui loa.

 

後継者 The 84th Academy Awards

昨晩は第84回アカデミー賞がありました。

The 84th Academy Awards ceremony took place last night, 

at the Hollywood and highland center in Hollywood,CA.

今年のホストBilly Crystal  はアカデミーの司会経験は、なんと9回目。

彼が司会をした授賞式は毎回評判が良いのだそうです。

オープニングから盛り上げてくれていました。

The event was hosted by Billy Crystal, marking his ninth time as host.

He is in high repute every time.

気になるオスカー像の行方ですが

ほぼ予想通りだったのではないでしょうか？

主演女優 賞には「The Iron Lady」のメリル・ストリープ

彼女は候補入りだけでも主演女優賞１４回、助演女優賞３回と史上最多の１７回

そして今回の受賞で3回目のオスカー獲得となりました。

And Oscar went......

It was an approximately expected result.

Meryl Streep won Best Actress, with 17 nominations, 

she is the most lauded actor in the history of the Oscars; this is her third win.

それにしても60を過ぎてもこの美しさ
彼女の映画「永久に美しく」ではないけれど
何か秘薬をお持ちなのでしょうか？

Her beauty remind me the movie "Death becomes her"
She must have an arcanum.

仏の無声白黒映画「The Artist」が作品賞、監督賞、主演男優賞など最多５部門受賞。

無声映画が受賞するのは第１回以来８３年ぶり、

仏映画は初めての事でした。

'The Artist' sweeps 5 Oscars including Best Film, Best Director, 

Best Actor, Best Original Score and Best Costume Design.

"The Artist" became the first silent movie in 83 years to win best picture. 

そしてこの映画に出演していたジャックラッセルテリアのアギーは

第１回ゴールデン・カラー賞

（ハリウッド映画で素晴らしい演技をした犬に与えられる）を13日に受賞しました。

Uggi, the canine costar of "The Artist" won

the First Golden collar Awards on 13th Feb.

もちろんアカデミー作品賞受賞の時には

監督や共演者とともに舞台へ上がりました。

Uggie  accepted the Best Picture Oscar

alongside director Michel Hazanavicius, stars Jean Dujardin, and other cast and crewmembers.

アギーは18金の骨の形のチャームをつけていました。

これは、授賞式の後オークションにかけられ

ホームレス動物のために寄付されるそうです。

Uggie wore a custom-made Chopard bowtie of 18 carat gold and satin. 

The dog-boned shaped charm featured Uggie's name, 

now that Uggie's big night is over, the piece will be auctioned off 

with proceeds going to The Amanda Foundation, which helps homeless animals.

 残念なことに10歳のアギーは撮影中に出始めた

原因不明の神経痛 のためリタイアするそうです。

 絶頂期でのリタイアはとても残念だが

オスカーを受賞できた事は最高だったとトレーナーが言っています。

Sadly, the 10-year-old Jack Russell terrier is retiring from film 

due to a mysterious neurological disorder, one he suffered through while shooting the film.

Trainer Omar Von Muller told "It is a shame this has happened when he is getting the biggest success of his career, but we feel the best thing to do is to retire him after the Oscars."

アギーの後はレアが引き受ける!!

来年はレッドカーペット?　いやその前に18金チャーム。。。ン？

地道な努力 steady efforts

ダディがゴルフ練習場にあるような大きなマットを購入。

ボーイズもさっそく練習です。

やはり何事もコツコツと地道な努力が大切,

そして上達への道です!

Daddy bought a golf mat which there is in the driving range.

Boys started to practice approach shot.

It is important for everything to make steady efforts.

レアは危ないのでパティオの中で

でもレアもやりたいらしい。。。

Lea stayed in the patio for avoiding a shot.

ボールを集めに行く時は真っ先に 飛び出していきました。

But, Lea wanted to collect balls with them.

でも残念ながら、ゴルフボールは固く重いのであまり遊べません。

A golf ball is too heavy and  hard for Lea to play with it.

ダディに穴開きボールをもらうと

大喜びで遊んでいましたが。。。。

Lea got a nice one!

She was playing quietly for a while.....

やっぱり。。。。

Oh-oh!

地道な努力の成果？

It's a result of steady effort.......?

抜きました。 no more extra

今日は先月発見された上の子の過剰歯を抜歯する日です。

手術の準備中、ちょっと緊張～

Today was the surgery of  pulling out older boy's extra tooth

that was found last month.

He seemed nervous a little.

全身麻酔が心配だったのですが、昨日キルトの生徒さんから

全身麻酔で親知らずを2本抜き、顔も腫れず痛みもほとんど無く

こちらでは一気に4本抜くのが一般的と聞き、安心して手術に臨む事が出来ました。

Mommy worried about general anesthesia,

but mommy heard from her quilt student who had an experience to pull out her wisdom tooth

with general anesthesia and she didn't have any pain and swelling.

It is common to pull out four wisdom teeth with general anesthesia at one time in U.S.

 

手術は30分ほどで終わり、ケアーの仕方などを聞いて 家に戻りました。

抜いた歯、思ったより大きくてビックリ。

The surgery was done for about 30 minutes.

The nurse explained how to care after surgery.

Extra tooth is big!!

6針縫いました。。。。痛そう。

Older boy got six stitches.......looks sore.

 

家にもどると、麻酔の影響かそのまま熟睡。

レアは心配そうにずっと側にいました。

After he returned home, he fell into a sleep.

Lea was staying at his side.

 

お年頃？ already lady ?

昨日からレアがやけに寝ているような気がして

具合でも悪いのかな？でも食欲はあるし、散歩も喜んで行くけれど。。。

とちょっと心配していました。

Especially, Lea sleep well from yesterday ??

 feel sick?  but she has appetite and went for a walk lively.....Hmm

ここ数日、さわやかなお天気が続いています。

今日マミィは午前中の用事が無くなったので

レアに庭で遊ぶ？と聞くと喜んで飛び出しました。

 These couple of days, it's beautiful weather.

Mommy's hula class was canceled this morning.

Lea, do you want to play at backyard? 

Lea jumped out!

でも少し遊ぶと満足した様子。

Lea seemed be satisfied with a little play.

気がつけばレアも今年で4歳。

少し落ち着いた......かな？

Lea is 4 years old in May.

Lea is already a lady......?

良い睡眠 Good sleep

午前中は大体夢うつつ～な感じで過ごしているレアですが

今日の寝方はなんだかすごい。

Usually, Lea spend all morning in a dream.....half asleep and half awake.

What happen to her today!

完全に熟睡。

しばらくして、物音で目が覚めた時も

ここはどこ？みたいに寝ぼけておりました。

Lea was sleeping like the dead.

After while, Lea woke to a sound.

 "Where am I?"

犬は熟睡せず15時間前後寝ていると言われますが、

実際はレム睡眠とノンレム睡眠のサイクルが人間より短いため

すぐに目を覚ます事が出来るのだそうです。

 Many people says, dogs don't sleep well and just doze off for about 15 hours.

Actually, sleep and wakefulness cycle is shorter than human's cycle,

so dogs are able to wake up soon.

ワンコは一日にほめられたことを眠っている間にしっかり学習し直すので

安心して良い睡眠が出来る環境を作ってあげることが大切なのだそう。

Dog study what was praised while it has good sleep.

The environment that can be sleep in peace is necessary.

 レアはどう？

How about Lea?

She must have good sleep.
